Re: Theodor Szántó's orchestral works?

True. Apologies. Publication will have its usual term of art meaning since it’s looking like most may exist as manuscripts only, of course… Actually, it is probable that most of his work (if not all) is in the public domain in the US. Anything published up through 1928 is obviously in the public do...

Re: "Urtext" editions with 2 dates?

I would have to see the edition, but there is a strong possibility that it is just a 2020 reprint of a 1992 edition. If so, then it's OK to add.

Re: Wolf-Ferrari Suite Concertino Op 16

The reference to copyright renewal is valid. It is a reference to the US copyright laws at the time. Back then, a copyright in the US would expire after 28 years unless a renewal was filed with the copyright office in the 27th or 28th year of the term. This could of course still be done even if the ...

Re: Theodor Szántó's orchestral works?

First of all, we 100% accept works as long as they are PD in Canada (which all of Szántó's works are). We in no way require that works also be in the public domain in the United States. Please do not mislead users in this way. Second, all of Szántó's works are likely in the public domain in the Unit...

Re: Possible copyright infringement

The claim is absolutely invalid, and we won't delete the copy. For one, the 18th century copy counts as publication. See the German Motezuma case for a parallel. The 1975 copy is also published. Further, performance DOES count under German law. The provision is: Wer ein nicht erschienenes Werk nach ...

Re: Requesting for the Full Scores of Chôros No.6 and Chôros No.12 by Villa-Lobos

“The contents of the parts…” That was the sound of a thousand editors saying, “hold my beer.” Legally true as no -creative- editorial work is usually involved (there are exceptions), but… In the case of these Eschig scores, they're often actual reprints. Not to mention, 95 years (from 1955) is alre...

Re: Debussy piano works (ed. Eberhardt Klemm, pub. Edition Peters): no longer accessible?

A project to remove the fingerings from these editions in a systematic fashion may be begun (if some people are able to put the time into it).

Re: Leonidas Leonardi orchestrations?....

It is possible to add orchestrations by Leonidas Leonardi now (since his works are in the public domain in Canada). I'll look into adding them when I have time. Also, these are in the public domain in the US (although some of his later works may not be). You can see we have the beginning of his work...

Re: 2024 PD releases

Simply put, you don't request changes on January 1. The copyright dates are entered automatically. You are free, as always, to submit anything that's eligible to be uploaded — meaning in the public domain in Canada (main server uploads) or the United States ( PML-US uploads ). As for Apollon musagèt...

Re: Anatoly Aleksandrov

You can now go ahead and create pages for any works published in 1927 or earlier. (On January 1, works from 1928 will also be eligible.)

Make sure you upload to PML-US.

The other one, excerpt from the opera Phyllida's Shadow Op.8-а (pub. 1926) has lyrics by someone who died in 1972, is that still OK to upload?
Yes, it's OK to upload to the PML-US server.

The full score for Chôros No.6 has been added. I will add the parts soon.

I'll note that the list of Villa-Lobos works we had on IMSLP already listed 1955/1987 as the publication date for this piece!

Re: Requesting for the Full Scores of Chôros No.6 and Chôros No.12 by Villa-Lobos

Apologies, with iucat's Villa-Lobos site apparently down I need to check other sources than Worldcat (or find a book as authoritative as the old website more or less was. Worldcat, at any rate, gets no.10 right, but not 6 & 12. I should also have checked the individual Wikipedia pages on each o...
