Re: Favorite Conductor(s)
I would also have to agree that Lorin Maazel is a terrible conductor (no offence meant to anyone). I cringe each time I hear his interpretation of Beethoven's glorious 9th. As for my favourite conductors, while it is difficult to really nominate one, I have to admit I'm a great admiror of Otto Klemp...

Re: Favorite All-Time Recordings
My sentiments exactly, no offence. If there had to be one, it would be easy: DFD and Gerald Moore doing Schubert Songs (Starting with Die Schoene Muellerin, then Winterreise, Schwanengesang, etc.) Those are indeed fabulous. Off the bat, a few of my all-time favourite recordings of all time would be...

Re: Favorite Mahler Interpreter
I do believe Michael Gielen should be on the list (and he has done a complete cycle). His 1st symphony is, in my opinion, particularly good ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: Best Composer ever
Taking music that already existing it and incorporating it into a new piece doesn't mean it isn't original or that it isn't creative. I'm thinking, in particular, about Brahms's 4th symphony, 4th movement, which is taken straight from Bach. Even though it already existed, in its new setting it is, a...

Hmm, Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto (Barenboim/Klemperer interpretation). Nothing like the good old classics every now and then ![Mr. Green ](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?
Hmmm, I do love Tchaikovsky's 6th. Just went to a concert to see his 5th too ^_^ As for the last thing I listened to, that would be a couple of Rossini's overtures, always a nice way to start the day. Oh, and about turning into a genius: I'd rather think exposing children to Leopold Mozart's music w...

I think we can agree with this however, whatever Stalin did, he's got great taste in music and force Shosta to write some of the best 20th century music there is. What did the CIA do? Serial? What's that? :P j/k A guy who insists on having a young woman pianist play the 2nd movement of Mozart's 23r...

Re: Beethoven on the Richter scale?
Piano concerti: Daniel Barenboim, Otto Klemperer. Honestly, I don't think anything will ever match the Emperor in its Barenboim version, ever. Sonatas: Richter is good, but if you want a wild, passionate No.23, go for Maurizio Pollini. He basically hammers the piano numb, but it's astounding. It's t...

Re: Best Composer ever
The more I think about it, the more I find that Schubert and Brahms don't get enough credit for what they did - especially Brahms. As far as tonal music goes, his symphonies are among the most achieved pieces ever written; and by the way, let's not forget the fourth movement of his 4th symphony is b...

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?
I just finished listening to Bach's Mass in B minor, BWV 232 (Otto Klemperer, New Philharmonia Orchestra). Right now, I'm contemplating moving on to Schumann's 4th Symphony - certainly my favourite.

I'm pretty much the 1st musician in my family. My mother has never really been into music, my father enjoys listening very much but doesn't play anything. I was introduced to the violin around 5 quite simply because my best friend was from a family of musicians who thought it would be easier to teac...
