Re: PD status of #433796 (Handel's Messiah, Halle/Barenreiter edition)
Another issue that I noticed is that the first page, which contains the edition, series, and volume (Halle Handel Edition, I/17) is supposed to be even-numbered. There's nominally a page before that, of course, but it's blank. I would add back the blank page to correct the parity of all the remainin...

Re: PD status of #433796 (Handel's Messiah, Halle/Barenreiter edition)
The German translation is indeed printed below the original English "line-by-line" on each page. Still, removing it shouldn't be too difficult. One possible other issue I noticed in connection with this is the use of down-stem voice in small type to accommodate the German translation when ...

PD status of #433796 (Handel's Messiah, Halle/Barenreiter edition)
I've noticed that score #433796, which used to be available on IMSLP, has now been blocked pending copyright review. That alone wouldn't cause me to comment on it, but it's been going on for at least a few weeks now. Since this is an urtext edition of a public-domain work, this edition should mostly...

Re: How to eliminate non-uniform yellowing from a HathiTrust scan before converting to monochrome?
The unsharp mask is very promising! I'm noticing that OTSU is still the worst in terms of smudging. Sauvola is better in the corner, while Wolf is better in the center, but since I think the former area is more sensitive, I'll stick to Sauvola. One question: how are you scaling and unsharpening the ...

How to eliminate non-uniform yellowing from a HathiTrust scan before converting to monochrome?
Hi all, I'm working on a score from HathiTrust in preparation for uploading it to IMSLP.* It's not already monochrome or even grayscale, so I'm running it through ScanTailor to convert it to monochrome as well as set uniform page sizes. (I already removed the Google watermarks.) Of course, some of t...

Re: Cohrs edition of Bruckner Symphony No. 9 (MWV, 2000/2005) - PD in 2026?
If the edition was heavily edited or is a completion of the work done by an editor, then that won't be covered under the Critical Edition rule, rather under the standard Life + 50 or 70 year rule depending on the region were talking about here. That's the main question - how much editing is "h...

Cohrs edition of Bruckner Symphony No. 9 (MWV, 2000/2005) - PD in 2026?
I'm assuming that this edition will become public domain next year, similar to most of the "Neue Gesamtausgabe" (already on IMSLP). This edition has only the first three movements; Cohrs' work with others on reconstructing the fourth movement was published elsewhere. The main question is w...

Schumann Violin Concerto (FPE/Schott) - public domain?
As far as I know, the first published edition (full score) of this work was issued by Schott in 1937. I am assuming that this is an Urtext edition, but since the editor, Georg Schunemann, died in 1945, this should be public domain in any case based on the life + 70 years rule. Unfortunately, matters...

Re: Bruckner Symphony No. 9, finale (fragments only, ed. Phillips)
Okay, I've finally uploaded the score. At this time, the file contains absolutely everything, as I wasn't sure exactly what needs to be redacted. Much of the textual material is in German, and, as previously noted, some of it appears "in-line" rather than on separate pages. I assume that t...

Re: Bruckner Symphony No. 9, finale (fragments only, ed. Phillips)
Given that all gaps in the score are maintained, I assume that the score is only of the composer's work, or at least that that was the intention. The score basically appears like an engraving/printing of the extant manuscripts, including short score. Obviously, the edition does feature editorial add...

Bruckner Symphony No. 9, finale (fragments only, ed. Phillips)
To my knowledge, no completions of the Symphony No. 9 finale are public domain; the earliest ones date from the 1970s, so they would need to be specifically PD-dedicated. * I know that some smaller unfinished works have PD-dedicated completions, but probably not this one. I am asking about a differe...

Symphony No.2 in C minor, WAB 102 (Bruckner, Anton) - the "1875-76" version reprinted by Kalmus is probably just 1892.
I also wrote about this issue in the work page discussion, so I'll try to condense matters here. The Kalmus score and parts, catalog A3175, are "authenticity uncertain", so there is an obvious interest in resolving the question of their provenance. Right now, this version is noted as "...

I went ahead and updated the new score, #925089, to restore the missing/erased text; compare PDF pages 21 (bottom) and 23 (top) in the other score, #562274.

Re: Symphony No.8 in C minor, WAB 108 (Bruckner, Anton) - placing new files, order of versions?
I've possibly identified a very unusual issue with the new scan of the full score. The original color scan shows very faint text, which appears erased, at the end of book page 17 and the beginning of book page 19. A review of the Bruckner Online scan shows that these are instructions for an optional...

Re: Symphony No.8 in C minor, WAB 108 (Bruckner, Anton) - placing new files, order of versions?
I messed up one of the file names - for file #925082, WAB108-Timpani-etc.pdf ought to be WAB108-1892-Timpani-etc.pdf by analogy with the other new files. I think we can't generally rename uploaded files, but since these files are still in review, if I could rename this file (or have it renamed by st...
