Re: Problems with music manuscript paper.
What I would like to see (if it exists - which it doesn't, to my knowledge) is a computer that contains two separate drives inside, and every time you save or alter a document, it copies each change twice, separately, to each drive. It would do this invisibly in the background, so you wouldn't have...

Stands for The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. But what were you referring to when you said 'grade 3'?

Re: Beethoven's metronome markings
Is there any truth in the idea I read many years ago (in a now-forgotten source) that, for many years, Beethoven's metronome was faulty and ran too fast, and he didn't know it, so that most of his metronome markings can not be relied on? I thought his markings were usually said to be unexpectedly f...

Re: Vivian Fine
Word documents cannot be uploaded - I'd suggest converting them to PDF instead, and if you really want the .doc available then you could zip it and upload along with the PDF.

WorldCat, the site I linked to in the sentence preceding the (offhand) abbreviation.dgljr5121973 wrote:1.) What is WC?
I'm not having any luck finding a scan of the Novello edition, but you can buy a Kalmus reprint of the score from SMP.2.) Is there any online sources or online copies I could find?

Re: Scherzo Op. 20/3 Orchestrated by Mendelssohn
Looks like it was published by Novello in 1911 and is therefore PD worldwide. The score at least is held at the universities of Boston, Indiana, and Chicago as far as the US is concerned - see here. Parts are listed on WC as well, they were published along with the score.

Re: Edition versus publication
I don't think the distinction exists in English in the same way it does in German. In the context of printed and disseminated works, an edition is a publication, so the terms 'first edition' and 'first publication' are for virtually all purposes here equivalent. I would suggest that veröffentlicht i...

Re: Dead link
Dead in what way exactly? Personally I can get all six files linked on that page to load just fine in Chromium 27 on OSX. Have you tried saving them to your computer without loading them in your browser?

Re: International Music Company: reprint or not reprint?
I'd say it's probably a reprint - from what I've seen their original engravings always have very clear information displayed on the first page of music.

Re: [FEAT] Humongous list of composers / arrangers / editors
The topic is ancient and the subject has long since been better resolved: Mouton has a VIAF entry with the same information. A compilation of authority records from various national libraries, this site has been a standard source of information for IMSLP for a few years now.

Re: Delete my files
To upload a new version of a file, it doesn't have to be deleted - there is a rather simpler way in place: 1. Click on the 6-digit IMSLP# underneath the download link (e.g., #279622) 2. From the page that takes you to, click on 'Upload a new version of this file' 3. Follow the instructions on the fo...

Re: Padre Soler, keyboard quintets
If it is "certainly a scientific edition" then it should still fall under the urtext provisions and be uploadable - if he didn't actually change the parts in the process of assembling them into a score, then it should not count as an original contribution on his part. No fingerings, bowing...
