Re: DIAMM and IMSLP
Just a few points: My understanding is that DIAMM is currently talking to lawyers who have advised Julia not to participate in the discussion. Therefore, I am currently waiting for them to respond to my previous suggestion before discussing too much more. The compromise cannot be IMSLP unilaterally...

Re: DIAMM and IMSLP
I would like to ask a question to the members of the staff of IMSLP: could you please explain what benefits are there for IMSLP and its users in keeping copies of the DIAMM pictures on the IMSLP servers?

Re: DIAMM and IMSLP
I think there's no point in questionning the copyright status of the pictures in this case since it would take a trial in order to find out. And I don't think DIAMM wants to spend that much money on this... Let's take for granted IMSLP is in its right. But that doesn't mean it's good. Just like if y...

Re: DIAMM and IMSLP
Olivier notes: The choice of the libraries to not let anybody photograph or even view some books is also perfectly legal. That is undoubtedly true of a private library which receives no public funding whatsoever . However, once you start receiving payment from public funds - collected via taxes, th...

Re: DIAMM and IMSLP
The choice of the libraries to not let anybody photograph or even view some books is also perfectly legal. I don't believe it is perfectly legal. It's a question of their policies which may or may not have any legal basis. If the item is public domain, there is no legal restriction to photographing...

Re: DIAMM and IMSLP
I personally don't feel bullied at all. I feel the request to remove perfectly legal images -- for whatever non-legal reason -- is bullying. From my personal point of view looking at the larger trend of things, I think projects organized with the strictures of DIAMM are not going to be able to sust...

Re: DIAMM and IMSLP
By the way, even though Dr Julia Craig-McFeely is obviously not well informed about copyright issues, I would hardly consider her message "bullying"... And please remember you can always use your intelligence to take decisions. You don't need to be threatened to do so.

Re: DIAMM and IMSLP
DIAMM will have to proactively submit the files to be held in escrow by IMSLP (i.e. the ones that are not currently on IMSLP) This just doesn't make sense... Did you really upload to Wikimedia Commons, all the pictures you've ever taken of old buildings, sculptures, landscapes, plants, animals, etc...

Re: DIAMM and IMSLP
You don't need to convince us there should be completely free access to all public domain work, and libraries wouldn't have anything to loose with that situation. You need to convince the owner of the actual (and often unique) material incarnation of the works. This is exactly what' DIAMM is trying ...

Re: DIAMM and IMSLP
In this specific case, the self-proclaimed "guardians of the musical public domain" are actually preventing people from accessing "the musical public domain". They don't give any access that wasn't granted yet, and they prevent bigger and better access. Not only from DIAMM, which...

Re: DIAMM and IMSLP
Isn't it a problem if the actions of "guardians of the musical public domain" prevent access to part of the "musical public domain"? When public domain scores stop being accessible? When the very concrete possibility of making other public domain scores accessible is jeopardized?
