Re: Louis Vierne: String Quartet (Quatuor) Op. 12

Daniel, just a note that I finally acquired a copy of the score, which looks to be a facsimile of manuscript (origin unknown). I was unable to find a set of parts and so I was thinking of creating a set of nicely typeset ones. If you'd rather I not steal your thunder feel free to let me know, but I'...

Re: Louis Vierne: String Quartet (Quatuor) Op. 12

You (or anyone watching) would probably have much better luck by locating a reprint of the first edition published by Eroica Music Reprints. A quick glance at the WorldCat shows there are a couple libraries in the US that have copies of this reprint (Yale, UC Santa Barbara). I'd love to see score (o...

Re: Die Seejungfrau (Zemlinsky)

I think the Prokofiev example you cited would fall under a different set of conditions seeing as he re-wrote the piece (from memory, if mine serves) some time later. It would a difficult task to prove that this constituted a revision of the original work.

If it isn't here, it isn't public domain in the US.

Dump the images out of the PDF container, then. I did this with 109808 without any problem.

Yes, this goes on every day. If you look around on the site, you'll see scores attributed to "Sibley Music Library".

Re: Importing P.D. to a non-P.D. country

This is indeed an interesting case. Stelz offered up some good advise, and to that I would say that you're probably only likely to get flack if you perform publicly for money, and large sums at that. Otherwise, there are bigger fish to fry...

Re: Piano 4 hands scores should have spacer page.

This can easily be fixed when duplex printing. Print the first secondo page on a single sheet of paper and then print pages, for example, 2-end in the traditional duplex manner.

Re: NON "Optimized" orchestral Scores

This is a very specific request, and I don't know of an un-optimized version of this score that is in the public domain myself. As for your opinion that it ruins the "scope/scale of orchestral works for the student", I personally disagree; students will adjust to that style of score (if an...

I have no problem accessing this file. It has no restrictions placed on it whatsoever. Which browsers did you try, which versions, and what is installed that opens PDFs?

They should be free in the US. First printing was before 1923.

Re: Puccini still copyrighted in Italy

Nigel, to answer your second query (and to build on steltz's valuable information), the two operas by Puccini listed as copyright in Canada (and elsewhere) are because the librettist is under copyright. Terms of protection take into consideration all contributors to the piece, not just the composer ...

Re: PDF safety

It's a valid question, and the present answer is that we don't. It'd probably be worth investigating into some MediaWiki plug-in that examines uploaded PDFs for any sort of code. If any is found the upload should be blocked. I can't think of a valid reason why any submitted PDFs need include such co...
