Re: Waldteufel, Espana Waltz op.286 for piano solo
Waldteufel's opus is essentially a cribbing of Chabrier's "Espana", with a few extra sections thrown in to justify Waldteufel's "ownership". In fact, the work was published as "España: Suite de Valses d'après la Célèbre Rapsodie de Chabrier, Op. 236". Souvenirs d'Espagn...

Re: Error in the viola part of Tchaikovsky string quartet No
Unless I'm missing something, the string parts here (Merton Music) have only rehearsal numbers as a guide. Plus, the interleaved formatting makes it fairly challenging to follow a particular part. Perhaps any information re errata could offer helpful tracking directions ...

Re: RAVEL
Nieweg makes an excellent point in his essay "Errata and the Orchestral Librarian (http://www.polyphonic.org/article.php?id=73): don't dump on Dover or Kalmus for reprinting public domain scores. These publishers make no claims for editorial oversight or musicological improvements. If one wants...

If I read correctly, in both instances the music doesn't appear in the same document as the words. It just might be a sneaky way of getting around any applicable legal issues...

Re: Transposing horn notation
"The comments in the other thread were useful too - so horn players are used to transposing on the spot..." I dont believe that's accurate. The horn is a transposing instrument; a part written for Horn in F will sound a perfect 5th lower than written. Key signatures or lack of same have no...

Re: Mozart, Piano Sonata in c, no KWV number
For what it's worth at this later date: the Sonata under discussion is apparently not by Mozart, but rather by one Anton Eberl. The following information courtesy of the Mozart Forum: Issued by Artaria as Mozart's Op.31 in 1794 and by Andre as Op.47 in 1795; Pleyel added Violin and Cello for Paris i...
