I'd like to think that Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini is a form of piano concerto since the piano is the soloist and takes centre stage, and I'm not very comfortable with the work being categorized as a work for piano and orchestra. There are other examples, Tchaikovsky's Variations ...

I would guess that means the "Score Requests" forum can be reopened once IMSLP is back up?

Hi, I do not wish to start another debate, but please do understand that Feldmahler and others are working their socks off to get IMSLP back online. Please consider that this is not their full time job as well as they have their own daily routines. IMSLP is a voluntary project and the people who are...

Unfortunately, not everyone person is privy to the developments of IMSLP since it went down and when it is expected to be up again. Suffice to say that the administrators of IMSLP are trying their hardest to get IMSLP back again. Plus, they are other issues to resolve, particularly regarding copyrig...

By retroactive you mean that works published before the copyright amendments can have their copyrights enforced according to the amendment? Would that mean, for example, a work which goes to the PD last year, but because of this, the copyright will be extended (for 20 more years in your example) and...

Re: This might get much more simple, soon

Did you catch this? http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2008/02/12/tech-copyright.html Just wondering what are the legal ramifications of this to IMSLP? If it involves the length of copyright protection of works in Canada (life+50), the status of some scores in terms of their copyright would have to...

This may sound premature, but would it be more convenient to split the files to multiple torrents, rather than one big torrent file? The torrents can be categorized, for example by composition type or composers. Of course, the disadvantage would be more maintenance and the risk of duplicate files. T...

So as long as these music files are public domain, putting them up online as a torrent or P2P should pose no legal implications for IMSLP?

I think each thread should start with the name of that language just for ease. Would that be necessary? As Leonard has mentioned, posts that are in a foreign language would go to the non-English help sub-forum. For example, if a thread in Italian goes to the Italian language help sub-forum, wouldn'...

PD in Canada of course. But what if one of the scores downloaded happens to be one whose copyright status is disputed by UE?

IMSLP is still being watched by UE, any small hint of using networks such as the one you are talking about (which utilizes illegal file sharing), they will jump at. We can not take a chance especially with such places. Although the dust seem to have settled, you can be sure that UE is still keeping...

Sorry Leonard, I did not mean to say that you have to translate them. In any event, I'm asking this out of courtesy for other forum members which might not understand what was said since I know some basic Italian but not good enough to translate them.
