Which would be the main reason why it is best to wait until IMSLP is back online, as once a score is submitted its copyright status can be verified. Unless of course, you can prove that the score is PD.

Wow! Indeed it does help. Thank you for the link. Aldona, If these are indeed the complete list of songs by Schubert, would it be a kind of checklist for you to see if you do indeed have all the scores of Schubert's songs?

This is a list of other music score websites listed in IMSLP (I believe it's from the Google cache):

So does this mean that similar to performances, one would have to obtain permission from the composer, publisher or whoever holds the copyright to the music compositions before making a MIDI file of that particular work?

It's ok. I'm afraid my university library doesn't have all of those scores you listed, only works for solo keyboard like the complete piano sonatas. By the way, since you have all Schubert's songs, is it accurate to say that he composed over 700 of them? But do you categorize his song cycles as one ...

Hi aldona, can you please help to check if all these songs which are published as "59 Favorite Songs" by Dover publications (ISBN no. 0486248496) are already scanned or previously available in IMSLP: http://web1.doverpublications.com/cgi-bin/toc.pl/0486248496 My university library has this...

My Dover score of Mikado also mentions the availability of parts for rental from MMB Music. But since I don't have the Dover score of Pirates of Penzance I'm not sure if the availability of parts also applies to the Pirates score. However, I have found the link to the score and set of parts of Pirat...

Hi, you can try purchasing the full score from Dover, which I think is quite affordable: http://store.doverpublications.com/048641891x.html It is a new engraving and it corrects many errors present in previous editions, which I think is better in terms of studying the music. But since you are conduc...

Hi, I do have the score to Ma Vlast (complete). However, it is the full orchestral score so I'm not sure if it will be useful to play on the piano though.

Thank you, aldona, for the information. I'll take a look at my library to see if the Dover scores have the plate number on them.

Hi aldona, are the songs published by Lea Pocket Score (originally published by Breitkopf and Haertel) the same as the one Dover reprinted? I assumed it is the same because it was specified that the source of the Dover reprint was Breitkopf and Haertel.

Also on the subject, if the first performance+50 years law for music recordings is used in Canada, does that mean that I can rip and convert to mp3 music from classical CDs that were first performed or recorded 50 years or more ago, regardless of when the media is transferred to CD and whether or no...

Or you can wait until 2014, because that is when most of his works (assuming these are published within his lifetime) will go into public domain in Canada and countries which observe the life+50 rule.

If the compositions are truly PD, would there be any problems or issues if the scores are transferred via normal e-mail? I don't have both scores by the way, I do have the score to Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole, however.
