That is also the reason why I'm holding out for the latest versions of Lilypond before using it. Most updated versions remove bugs that are present in previous versions. Of course, this is an ongoing process as newer versions will always come up to replace the older versions as well.

While I feel that Beethoven Hause is not entitled to claim copyright for the manuscripts, it does have the right to impose a fee or charge to visitors to see the score. This is because like Peter said, they have invested equipment and manpower to scan the manuscripts, therefore it is only fair they ...

Perhaps the biggest challenge in using Lilypond is that, unlike music engraving softwares like Encore, Finale or Sibelius, the interface of Lilypond is text based rather than graphic based. Therefore, a text editor is required to input a set of commands or syntaxes and these are processed by Lilypon...

Yes, I agree with pml on that one. Sometimes, there will be overlaps or clashes between notes and dynamic/expression marks, and you have manually override or tweak this in order to produce a high quality score.

I would like to add that the quality of the engraving using the Lilypond software is quite good, better than some traditional music engraving techniques. The only downside of Lilypond is of course, a steep learning curve.

Also, if what Mr Irons says is true, that the Mahler works are copyrighted because they are published by UE, then publishers worldwide will have a field day. For example, Dover and Kalmus reprinted lots and lots of sheet music that are public domain, they can simply claim copyright for all these PD ...

Forgive me if this is off topic, but may I ask if this "Fanfare" is the same genre that Copland used in writing his "Fanfare for the Common Man"?

Hi, maybe you can try the Choral Public Domain Library:
http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Antonio_Vivaldi

As there are many works by Vivaldi by the title of Gloria, I don't know which particular work you are referring too. Maybe you can find it in CPDL.

Good Luck!

I think what Aldona means is that the rating of a music scan from 1-10 is very subjective, and the submitter will almost always biased towards a better quality rather than a lower one. This is way I think it is better for a scan to be rated by as many people as possible. A fair score or rating could...

Interesting idea. But with its freezing conditions, how can a server be physically located in Antartica? Besides, isn't Antartica's resources supposed to be shared worldwide? How would this affect the legality of a server if it's located there?

I would like to ask, is the Berne Convention legally binding? Meaning that even if a country signed the convention, are they legally compelled to follow it?

Okay, but I don't see or at least never heard of Dover or the original publishers pressing charges against Amazon.com or SheetMusicPlus or anyone of its employers.

To Funper, Easy man. I have no intention whatsoever to offend you or ruin your celebration. Of course it sucks when IMSLP goes down, but like you said, life goes on. I'm doing that. If you still want to celebrate, fine with me. Just as because everybody has a right to their own opinion, you really d...
