Re: IMSLP offline?
Connection refused. Usually that's either nothing listening (i.e. the web server isn't running at all, usually due to a process crash) or a firewall setting blocking traffic. I wouldn't panic until someone higher up the food chain here says that we should.

Janáček Idyla
I'm curious as to the public domain status of Idyla in the United States. The only sheets on IMSLP were published in the 1950s; wouldn't that have to be region-locked and only opened to the US if a manuscript or similar were found?

Nicanor Abelardo - Cinderella Overture
A friend of mine tipped me off to the above-mentioned piece, and it seems as though there's no copyright renewal information for it in 1957, '58. or '59. Can we safely assume that this piece was essentially forgotten and left to fall into the public domain in the US?

Re: MusicXML files should be available along with the scores
Just playing devil's advocate here, but who checks the user-submitted, user-created typesets for accuracy now? I fail to see how this would be any different, in either that way or the license issue.

Re: MusicXML files should be available along with the scores
If I ever get to the point of starting my dream project (getting typeset parts for all the scores here, which I do realize is precisely as ridiculous as it sounds), this will sort of take care of itself in a way. They'll be in PDF format, but the save file will be somewhere, of course, and if that f...

Re: Yamaha Silent Brass mutes, question for brass players
You may have already pulled the trigger on this, but from my experience with the (trombone) one I borrowed, I wouldn't buy one. The reasons are that the sound you get through the headphones isn't terribly true to what the open horn sounds like, and that's makes it useless when you're trying to work ...

@tilmaen: She may not have literally signed something, but I'm guessing there were terms she had to agree to by checking a box before she hit submit on her order. Just like 99.99% of other online buyers, I'm guessing she didn't read any of the terms she agreed to.

Re: Sibley Project List of remaining links
For the record, I just sent Jim and Alice a list of all the restricted access numbers between 6000 and 6999. It's likely that at least a few of these were restricted by the software glitch I mentioned, but I asked for information on all of them so we can make notes about the ones that are truly non-...

I think it probably is, yes. I'll know better when I have time to look at a few of the scores I skipped over.

Re: Some suggestions for improvements on IMSLP
Starrmark,
I'd like to see IMSLP host the parts, as many as possible. Basically anything that doesn't have a condensed score. It'd be an immense project, but one I intend to involve myself in eventually.

Re: Screwed up Copyright info template
Is there a spot I can learn how to do this? It'd be a great help for the Sibley records that look like they should be under US copyright.

Thanks, I didn't realize that existed. However, I meant the earlier ones that Cypressdome mentioned.

... although there's the potential for its greater use now that the volumes of the U.S. Catalog of Copyright Entries documenting the renewal records for works published between 1923 and 1949 are available on archive.org. ... Wait, was this announced somewhere on the site? Is there an easy link to it?

Re: Don't know how to title this work
Here, the Library of Congress is going for a short, almost invisible title. The fuller title of this work is usually given as the “Short Service in the Dorian Mode”, just to be confusing, but I’d very much prefer the title to be as it’s known to the sort of people who perform it (it is actually a c...

Re: Don't know how to title this work
You have no idea how thankful I am that experienced people exist here. I skipped that one quite a while ago, deciding that I'd come back later, but I got tired of seeing it sit there, laughing at me.
