Re: Florence Price - The Oak
It depends on a few things for US copyright: 1. Was it registered in Catalogue of Copyright Entries as Unpublished Work? (If so, when? This applies with 2a-c) 2. If possibly published, when? 2a. If published (in any form) before or in 1963, check if it's renewed. 2b. If first published in 1964-2003...

Re: Appeal for Help with Sibley Project
Where exactly are they broken? The Link List pages? See my comment from August 28: https://imslpforums.org/viewtopic.php?p=49853#p49853 For what it's worth, the method of adding a new scan by dragging the "cite" URL onto the new scan dialog as per IMSLP:AddFile doesn't seem to work anymor...

Re: Appeal for Help with Sibley Project
Thanks for keeping this project organized, I’d like to help out with mirroring, especially with the PD-everywhere files. I think a small group of dedicated contributors could really make a dent in the backlog if we coordinate and avoid uploading editions already present on IMSLP. Also, an automated...

Re: Terrible user-submitted parts
I understand that "questionable" is fine in the absence of something better, but yes, as DBMiller suggests, these files are actively harmful to anyone trying to perform the piece. Thankfully this wasn't one I ran into myself, but a librarian friend of mine in another orchestra did. He had ...

Terrible user-submitted parts
There's a set of parts on Ottorino Respighi's Vetrate di chiesa that are bad enough to be unusable. I don't mean "these look bad" but rather "they're full of errors, mislabeled parts, missing sections, etc." I know at least at some point in the past we could go to each file and a...

Re: Appeal for Help with Sibley Project
For what it's worth, the method of adding a new scan by dragging the "cite" URL onto the new scan dialog as per IMSLP:AddFile doesn't seem to work anymore. It times out with the following error:
Error: Sibley page download failure, error #28.

Florence Price - The Oak
Can someone confirm definitively that this piece is PD-US? The page is marked as such, but the manuscript is undated and I'm reading articles suggesting that she wrote the piece in 1943, which would mean it's almost certainly not public domain in the States unless, I suppose, the manuscript itself i...

Re: IMSLP offline?
Connection refused. Usually that's either nothing listening (i.e. the web server isn't running at all, usually due to a process crash) or a firewall setting blocking traffic. I wouldn't panic until someone higher up the food chain here says that we should.

I'm curious as to the public domain status of Idyla in the United States. The only sheets on IMSLP were published in the 1950s; wouldn't that have to be region-locked and only opened to the US if a manuscript or similar were found?

Nicanor Abelardo - Cinderella Overture
A friend of mine tipped me off to the above-mentioned piece, and it seems as though there's no copyright renewal information for it in 1957, '58. or '59. Can we safely assume that this piece was essentially forgotten and left to fall into the public domain in the US?

Re: MusicXML files should be available along with the scores
Just playing devil's advocate here, but who checks the user-submitted, user-created typesets for accuracy now? I fail to see how this would be any different, in either that way or the license issue.

Re: MusicXML files should be available along with the scores
If I ever get to the point of starting my dream project (getting typeset parts for all the scores here, which I do realize is precisely as ridiculous as it sounds), this will sort of take care of itself in a way. They'll be in PDF format, but the save file will be somewhere, of course, and if that f...

Re: Yamaha Silent Brass mutes, question for brass players
You may have already pulled the trigger on this, but from my experience with the (trombone) one I borrowed, I wouldn't buy one. The reasons are that the sound you get through the headphones isn't terribly true to what the open horn sounds like, and that's makes it useless when you're trying to work ...

@tilmaen: She may not have literally signed something, but I'm guessing there were terms she had to agree to by checking a box before she hit submit on her order. Just like 99.99% of other online buyers, I'm guessing she didn't read any of the terms she agreed to.

Re: Sibley Project List of remaining links
For the record, I just sent Jim and Alice a list of all the restricted access numbers between 6000 and 6999. It's likely that at least a few of these were restricted by the software glitch I mentioned, but I asked for information on all of them so we can make notes about the ones that are truly non-...
