What copyright does UE claim to hold on something like Janacek, Leos (1854-1928) Violin Sonata [No. 3] (pub.1922, Hudebni Matice) My understanding of it is that it's PD in the US (published pre-1923) and he's been dead for 79 years, so is out of copyright almost everywhere else in the world. Or did ...

Free legal (i think) recording of this by the string orchestra of new york city:
http://www.sonyc.org/audiovisual.html
I think the part you're reffering to is just after 12 mins on this recording.

i think that using a DC++ hub is an exelent idea, i also think that it should be seperate from imslp for exactly the reasons that peter highlighted: yolu couldn't realistically share much of the existing collection like this and others would be free to bring copyrighted stuff onto it, possibly witho...

I don't think this is the best place for this question, but i'll answer anyway: YES, it is all free, it is all legal (dependant on local copyright laws) and if it wasn't then you can bet that it would have been taken off the internet by now. It is true that it's hard to imagine so much great music f...

I don't disagree that DC++ is very useful, and many good collections of scores are undoubtably avalible there. But it's not appropriate for distibuting files from imslp instead of direct downloads. Another thing i've been thinking about is which files would offered as torrents? Would it be the entir...

I've just had a look @ DC++ (looks like a directable version of limewire) and i don't think it would be the right thing for what's being proposed atm (though it would be good for sharing personal collections), i think a BitTorrent transfer would be more appropriate for providing an alternative to do...

interesting idea, but would there really be enough interest for this to work? you would need quite a few people wanting the same score to make this possible, plus i don't really see the need to do this as it takes an almost negligible amount of time to download anyway. This sort of p2p transfer is g...

Re: [BUG?] Two URLs per page
Had to open a new topic since the previous one is locked. It's not really much to do with this suggestion, but is there really any need to lock topics here? Even though the problem may've been fixed there may still be more comments on it (like this one), or if things still don't work for some peopl...

8 octaves above middle c is aprox 64000Hz so inaudible (unless you're a bat) the highest audible note will be about an octave and a 5th below that (aprox 20kHz), and then only if you've got good hearing. As for the highest playable note, you can get the e 4 octaves above middle c using harmonics on ...

not necessatily, i don't know about russian copyright laws, but they're different from canadian, plus many russian sites are quite liberal with copyright laws, so it doesn't always mean they're PD. In this case the work is almost certainly PD (Viotti died 1824?) so unless it's a modern edition, then...

One possible way to get parts is from a good midi file: just open it in finale (i think sibelius also works) and it will give you a pretty good score of the music, it may need dynamics/articulations added, but that's not too hard and most other things are fine. Then all you need to do is extract the...
