Beethoven's Symphonies
For a time, Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 was also my favorite, after I had been introduced to it through the film Soylent Green . When I first heard Beethoven's Ninth, I was a bit skeptical of its greatness, and indeed struggled to like it much as music; however, I discovered greater appreciation for ...

Interesting...
Interesting...have you ever been seized by stetches of perfect performance, in which you hear not only a relatively vague orchestral sound, but the exact orchestral sound of a particular recording? This is the phenomenon I seem to catch brief glimpses of from time to time, and which I suspect certai...

Imaginary music
Describe your experiences in imagining music, viz., performing pieces of music, whether in fragments or in whole performances, entirely from memory and within the imagination. My understanding of imaginary music has come to be thus: there are two levels to it, viz., 1) the knowledge of the melodies ...

Weird poll
Why not make a poll with all of the Beethoven symphonies as options? Or, at least, a poll that includes two of Beethoven's most significant symphonies, the Third and Fifth? Anyway, I answered 'Ninth Symphony'; it's my favorite of all the symphonies, and I believe it to be one of the greatest, if not...

The Harpsichord in Symphonies
Can someone with knowledge enlighten me as to the meaning of the part labeled Violoncello e Basso (Cembalo) in the scores of classical period symphonies? I understand Cembalo translates to "harpsichord". Parts labeled as mentioned appear, for example, in the following score of a classical ...

Yeah, there does seem to be a correlation with image size
Now that I consider it, the bigger PDFs seem to be the ones that fail. For instance, the two biggest PDFs for the wind serenade in B-flat are exactly the ones that don't work. (The predicted PDF sizes are given if you mouse-over the PDF icons.) The same goes for the piano concerto I mentioned. Howev...

The Digital Mozart Edition
Has anyone had trouble downloading PDFs from the Dgital Mozart Edition ? In my experience, about 1 in 3 fail to download. For example, the website fails to return the PDFs for some of the movements of the Serenade in B-flat (KV 361/370a) , namely movements 2 and 6. It also fails to return movement 1...

Nice insights
Thanks for posting your insights on this. I never had a musical education, so all of this is quite interesting to me. I know what you mean about what I've pointed out probably being a common musical "sequence", so to speak. I was compelled to post, though, because as I was listening to Bee...

Similarity between Beethoven's 8th and Mozart's 40th
I think the motif in the first movement of Beethoven's 8th symphony bears a resemblance to the motif in the third movement of Mozart's 40th symphony. What do you guys think? Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Symphony No. 40, third movement http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/2240/mozartzr8.th.jpg Ludwig van B...

Thanks for the replies
Thanks for the replies, guys. Actually, the Brahms symphonies were precisely what led me to bring this up. Beautiful scores, except for the branding. Whether or not it's a vector graphic, it's quite removable; it's just more difficult if it's part of the bitmap. But either way, it will take some tim...

May have answered my own question
Pardon me, but I may have answered my own question. It would appear, from a visit to http://www.sheetmusicfox.com , that all of the "branded" scores on this site are transferred from SheetMusicFox. Therefore, it is their responsibility for having branded many of the scores that appear on t...

Some scores "branded": why?
Why are some of the scores on this website "branded"? By that, I mean there is an ugly label at the top left of every page. It is obviously not part of the original scan and was added in later for some reason. I don't like it. I don't like to complain and nitpick about a free service (and ...
