Proofreading typeset harpsichord manuscript

Post by noktulo »

Hi there, I'm relatively new to typesetting but wanted to contribute to the Skywolf project so I typeset one of Benedetto Marcello's harpsichord sonatas. I wanted to see if anyone would be willing to proofread and make sure I didn't misinterpret anything. There were times I needed to cross-check between the two manuscripts to make sure I was reading it correctly.

The original manuscript used a lot of cross-staff beams and multiple voices for what look to me like simple chords. I preserved those but didn't know if it would be more modern to simplify and reduce crossing staves to a minimum. I'm also curious if soprano clef is common in modern harpsichord sheet music -- this swaps between bass, soprano, and treble clefs for the lower staff. I was thinking I might just reduce to bass and treble.

There was also a point where two right hand voices and one left hand voice are very close together on the lower staff and I was having a hard time typesetting it in a nice-looking way, so I resorted to an ottava bassa and keeping the right hand on the upper staff instead.

Would love any feedback in general! PDF link here
