Newly discovered ms. announced in bulletin 106 of the Alkan Society

Post by WD GX »

I want to ask about the copyright eligibility and page creation guidelines for the newly discovered work by Charles-Valentin Alkan. I Recently, made an edition based on this incomplete ms by Alkan, which was announced by Mark Viner in the Alkan Society Bulletin No. 106 (Page 1) https://1d9ee1a0-dbcd-47d2-a44c-ac2b675 ... 3fa11b.pdf. Due to the poor visual quality of the original manuscript and the copyright held by the Alkan Society on the bulletin itself, I don't intend to upload the ms. However, I would like to know if I am allowed to upload my own edition of this work. Please note that this edition is entirely my own work. It was transcribed directly from the ms. and was produced independently of the edition by José R. López found in the same bulletin. Additionally, I'm not sure if I'm permitted to ask this questionn here about this manuscript but just in case; I would appreciate it if someone woudl tell me on the proper naming convention for this work if I were to add it in Alkan's category. Given the nature of the piece, should it be titled "Untitled fragment (1866)"?

I think that you can just put "Piece in [tonality]"

I don't think that writing "Piece in [key]" would be correct since the work is incomplete. Maybe something like "Fragment for piano in [key]"? I think that I'll use the latter since it seems to be more correct and normal
