Copyright status, Telemann concerto

The presence of a third ripieno violin part is odd, since there don't appear to be any other solo concerti by Telemann with that exact instrumentation. The very high tessitura of the solo part is also exceptional for Telemann, as far as I can tell. The imitation of frogs, though, is not at all unusual.

The parts in Rheda (deposited in the Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Münster) must have been copied either in an extreme hurry, or by an inexperienced copyist. Compared with the Telemann sources in Darmstadt, for instance (which display Graupner's characteristic accuracy), they are in an entirely different league. There are bars missing, bars copied out twice, divergent articulation in different parts, many accidentals missing, notes missing from some bars, some bars written out with doubled note values (in the Alternativement movement), and so on. The piece cannot easily be performed from the facsimile. The 3/8 movement is spelled "Alternitivement" in the source.

I'm not entirely convinced that it is by Telemann, but given the number of Telemann works in the Rheda library, it is certainly a plausible attribution.
