Hello,

I just bought the Dover book "Ragtime Rediscoveries" and -knowing that these pre-1923 scores are PD in the US, but may not be elsewhere- I'm trying to get some biographical information on ragtime composers (and in particular on Charles (Chas.) Humfeld).
Do somebody know where to search?
I don't thing ragtime musicology is a very-well developed field by now...

The most recent work that might assist you is David Jasen's book, Ragtime: An Encyclopedia, Discography, and Sheetography (Routledge, 2007). It's pricey, but a pretty good source.
