Giacomo Puccini's Turandot

Post by Choralia »

There is currently a discussion about Puccini's Turandot in the section in Italian language of these forums. This work is currently marked as [TB] at IMSLP. Franco Alfano, who completed the music, died in 1954. Puccini and the librettists, according to Wikipedia, died earlier than Alfano. If life + 50 years applies, this work should not be restricted in Canada, I guess. I suppose that there is a specific reason why it is still in the [TB] status (maybe copyright on the specific editions?). Could anybody be so kind to explain?

TB - copyright in US - is applied here, because it was first published in 1924

Thank you for your prpmpt reply. AFAIK, IMSLP's servers are in Canada, why U.S. copyright is being considered?

Most traffic comes from the US; it also is a compromise between our views and those of Publishers :)
And the organization for Project Petrucci is a US organization.

This is not completely logical, however it's very reasonable

Thank you.
