The status of Stefan von Hodula

Post by kcleung »

Stefan von Hodula arranged "Variations on a Nursery Song" by Dohnanyi for two pianos and four hands. The 2-piano copy I have was published in 1929 by N Simrock.

Dohnanyi's work will become PD in Canada. However when did Hodula die? If Hodula outlive Dohnanyi, this 2-piano arrangement will *not* become PD next year.

I can't seem to locate any dates for him either. In any case, do keep in mind that even if he did perish before Ernő Dohnányi, the 1929 publication date, which was done so correctly, makes the piece under copyright in the US. All this translates to this arrangement not being accessible on the first of January, unless an IMSLP-CA comes online before that time, which will obviously be the only place in which it would be public domain (Canada, that is, and other life + 50 territories).
