Hi, all...
I am preparing an article for submission to various musicological journals, and I'm not sure if I need permission to use scans downloaded from IMSLP. I'm using (a scan of) the first orchestral page of Wagner's "Tristan" and a piano reduction of the same passage, copied from the Adobe file into Word. Thanks a bunch. ~ David
Permissions for scans used in journal articles?

Everything you can download from this site is in the public domain, so no, you need no permission whatsoever (if you're in Canada or the US at least). Wagner is public domain worldwide, you're in the clear.

Thanks, KG! I appreciate the (prompt) response!

A note that not everything is literally public domain. Some files may be under a Creative Commons or Performance Restricted (now deprecated but some still exist) license, in which case you may need permission from the original rights holder (but not IMSLP). However, these files will be marked in the "Copyright" field of course.
