In hopes of uploading a piece to the right page

Post by Eric »

or moving it to the right page later :) - all it says is that it's an arrangement by Gustave Blessner (ok, known name) of a Grande marche du ballet, by Pacini (ok, known name if it's Giovanni Pacini- apparently there's another one too) - from his opera "La Sorçière et le Chevialer" - in that last bit lies the rub.

In what Pacini opera premiered by 1842 (the copyright date of this item) is there a Grande marche du ballet, that went in French countries by the alternate name "La Sorçière et le Chevalier"? Help appreciated. Thought it might be Medea (which has a sorceress and a knight) until I saw that was premiered in 1843 :)

I don't have any answer to your question, but...
... it should be "Sorcière", not "Sorçière"

hrm- the Blessner score (I don't think he was a native speaker) has the cedilla and it seemed right but that's probably a sort of overcompensation speaking :) - thanks.

Hrm. Is it kosher (as it were) to post it as a work by Blessner with a request in the comments section that someone either inform me what opera page (if we already have it etc.) in the Pacini category to move it to, to somewhat expand the set of people who might have a looksee... though I have done in the past I don't really like creating pages that are ultimately intended just to be eventually moved once lack of knowledge of original source is overcome (mostly it's the fact that I think gaining even wider distribution and preservation for the music overcomes the slight qualms :) ).

(And thanks to Carolus, I think, for putting me on to RISM. Has been extraordinarily useful in just this- once I've worked out that certain things (like dates) don't mean exactly what I thought they meant, etc. as with several other resources, but that goes without saying.)

(I will go try to look soon also. It also occurs to me that the comment I left in ''Forum: Medea (Pacini, Giovanni)'' I should have left in the more general Pacini, Giovanni forum, for the same reason. :) )
