Need help to decipher some text on a score...

I just recently discovered Jules Massanet's Esclarmonde, and found the Manuscript score in your collection. I like to read through the scores of music as I listen to it and I want to create a "proper" score in MuseScore. (It'll be a pretty stripped down version without any stage directions since it's only for reading through. If I decide to post it here I'll leave an XML or MUSE file so that that kind of thing can be added if anyone wants to.)
What I need is some help with a couple of bits of text/symbolism that I don't know the meaning of because I don't speak or read French and I don't know if they're important (I'm assuming that they are or they wouldn't be in there!) or whether they're idiomatic to the French language or to French music specifically or to Opera music in general. A couple of examples may be found on page 6, bar 1, beat three of the Hautbois (it looks sort of like a "VPz") and Bassoons. (It looks sort of like a "Toz" with the "o" superscript.)
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
