Chopin Category
On the category page it's spelled Frederic Chopin. It should technically be Frédéric Chopin. I know it's not an easy fix, but it should be fixed at some point seeing as it is a technical inaccuracy. Plus he's such a well known/well searched for for composer, it's a fairly conspicuous mistake. I fear it might make IMSLP look bad.
Re: Chopin Category
Interesting. This has lain unfixed for four and a half years and has survived our adoption of LC Authorities as a naming standard (they concur with Frédéric). Yes, it should be corrected. However, I don't think it has exactly made us look bad - the category was created the second day the site was open, and we're pretty much the largest single (free, at least) music resource on the web and a recommended resource by multiple universities, so... (and anyway, there are a few different accepted ways to spell his name - another is Fryderyk).
While we're at it, I think we should decide on a standard catalogue system to use (if that's possible/practical - I confess I'm not really familiar with them, except of course opus numbers). Most of our pages use just opus numbers, but there are some with no catalogue number whatsoever, and some labeled KK., P, or B. Perhaps we should switch everything to Op.# (B.#)?

By 'looking bad', I didn't mean it in such a severe way. But it still might make us look somewhat imprecise. Addressing the cataloging system: Of course Opus numbers are fairly standard. B# makes sense, for the most part. But I'm not sure how practical or possible this is. There are different cataloging numbers used in relation to different composers (e.g. BMW is used for Bach, D. for Schubert, K. for Mozart, L. for Scarlatti), and I don't really think these need to be changed, because they do, in their own right, identify specific composers. Although for organization purposes, I guess I agree with you... It's a tough call.
Re: Chopin Category
More generally, when are English spellings of non-English names acceptable here? Or, when are non-English spellings required? I recall seeing a policy on this somewhere but can't find it at the moment.

On IMSLP, it's best to use the title the composer originally used unless it's something standard such as "sonata" (as oppose to Sonate, or something along similar lines). For composer names, it's best to use whatever is accepted by the Library of Congress authorities (LC authorities).

Re: Chopin Category
Although sometimes even this difficult to determine since often the titles are what the publishers wish and not necessarily the composers. For this reason, we generally try to go by what Grove reports in the works list (if applicable).it's best to use the title the composer originally used
