PDF protection ?

Hi, everybody !

The Piano.ru Library has re-opened recently. They have tons of good stuff.

I have found in this collection an edition of the Chopin Mazurkas. (There are other Chopin editions on this website, not all of them are on IMSLP). I don't know edition it is, but it is different from the ones we have at the IMSLP. So I thought it could be uploaded it I could be sure it is public domain.

However there is one problem. The set is divided into four PDF files. To uploaded on IMSLP, it is preferable to split the files et upload each piece on the page which corresponds to the opus number. I can't split the files, because these are protected.

Does anyone have an idea to solve this problem ?

Thanks in advance.

There might be different solutions depending on the specific type of protection activated. Probably the strongest trick is to print the score through a virtual printer that outputs the document as a set of TIFF files (e.g., Microsoft Office Document Image Writer), and then re-assemble TIFF files into pdf files using tools such as PDFill PDF Tools (free, http://www.pdfill.com/pdf_tools_free.html). PDFill PDF Tools can also convert the original pdf file into TIFF files without using a virtual printer driver, however this function may not work on protected pdf files.

Please see also this page: http://imslp.org/wiki/Locked_PDFs
Basically, you can download a pre-1.0 version of PDFSAM, which ignores the encryption.
