"uno Basso e Violone"

This annotation appears on a number of occasions in the Cello/Double Bass part of Beethoven's "Triple Concerto" in C major for violin, cello and piano (opus 56). But the piece doesn't even call for a "Violone" (an instrument usually only found in Baroque music)! So what does it mean? The term is so ambiguous; does he just mean that one cello and one double bass are to play soli in the sections so marked?

In p.2 of
http://imslp.org/wiki/Triple_Concerto,_ ... udwig_van) the cello/basses part says
un basso e vlc. So you're right. Violone meant double bass in baroque times.

In the full score (if that is what is being discussed), the designation seems to be "uno Basso e Violonc." The abbreviation could be mistaken for "Violone", especially at the level of scanning used.
