Hi! I'm a long time user of imslp (classical violist and violin/viola teacher) and I was wanting to buy ads on imslp for my teaching lessons online business. I figured it would support something I love as opposed to giving money to a big company. I'm really stuck on how to do that, though, can anyone help me?

All our advertisements are run through Google AdSense, so there is a bid process, though I'm not too familiar with it because IMSLP never used it as an advertiser.

Another way is now we have a difficulty section: https://imslp.org/wiki/IMSLP:Difficulty If you are interested to maintain a list for Viola, let me know (eguo@imslp.org). Then you can put your name in the maintainer list which would link back to your personal page, where you can advertise your business. Plus your students may be able to use the list. And you won't have to pay except for the IMSLP membership.
