Scharwenka Piano Concerto No. 3

I note that the year of composition of the concerto is given as 1889 and the year of publication as 1899. Rather a long gestation, no? The concerto was actually started and completed in 1898, not 1889. Probably just a typo. The composer worked on it, in part, on board the ship returning him to Germany from the U.S.

It wouldn't have been an unusually long gestation, actually. Some pieces wait a thousand years to be published... or more. (Not a comment of any kind by me on this specific work- which I regard as quite lovely.)

(Of course, composition of it really began in the late 1820s. :D )
