Stravinsky: Ode, performed by the Cleveland Orchestra under Oliver Knussen's direction. The second movement scherzo, the hunting music, is my favorite piece of music ever composed by Stravinsky.

Mozart Piano Sonata in B-flat major K333 played wonderfully deadpan by Michael Parcell-Davies on what sounds like a fortepiano but I'm listening online with no sleeve notes.

Johann Adam Reincken: Sonatas from Hortus Musicus. Lush. Dramatic. Heart-breaking. Fabulous bass lines. Most of Reincken is lost. Bach admired him greatly, possibly met him, and arranged several works from Hortus musicus (as BWV 954, 965 and 966).

Beethoven: Fidelio - 1950 recording with Wilhelm Furtwangler conducting and Kirsten Flagstad as Lenore. Right now I'm at Rocco's Act 1 aria. Not the best recording, but Kirsten Flagstad's singing makes, like always, is stellar.

Catching up on Composer of the Week on BBC Radio 3: the underrated, mysterious, extraordinary, Jan Dismas Zelenka.

Telemann was so impressed by his abilities that he was complicit in a plot to steal copies of his work. And none other than J.S.Bach spent much of his time in Leipzig trying to curry favour with Zelenka's employers in the hope of securing an appointment. Yet, until the 1960s, Zelenka was little more than a name, even to the most knowledgeable scholars.
