Please help! Mozart Double Concerto??

Post by flageoletty »

Hello everyone! I'm new here and hope to get some help concerning Mozart Concerto for Flute and Harp. My question is: is the Concerto KV 297c the same as KV 299?? I browsed IMSLP but found only the KV299, is there really a second double concerto for this rather rare formation?

Yes, according to Neue Mozart-Ausgabe (http://dme.mozarteum.at) KV299 corresponds to 297c.

The Koechel catalog can be confusing. The short of it is, that in the third edition the numbers were shifted around to try and correspond to a more proper chronological order, however any existing numbers couldn't be used, thus many pieces got the a, b, etc. Then it was done again with the sixth edition, to an even greater amount. So a large number of pieces have two or even three separate numbers, but the originals are still very often used as a matter of tradition and ease.
(And if it were done today....I can't even fathom the mess it'd be)
