Question about "La Spagna" by Diego Ortiz

Post by sorok »

Diego Ortiz (c.1510 –c.1576) created Tratado de glosas and his second book from this work has this piece of work as a title.
De la segunda manera de taner el violón con el címbalo que es sobre canto llano
It is also called "La Spagna" for short.

I don't see any historical background about this. How did this set of music get the shorthand "La Spagna"? I read the PDF with my limited knowledge of pre-modern Spanish and I feel more confused.

At which page of https://imslp.org/wiki/Trattado_de_Glos ... iz,_Diego) do you see this? Is La Spagna a handwritten addition?

I looked at the PDF #58549 in Trattado de Glosas (Ortiz, Diego) and the PDF page 58 bottom section introduced the "La Spagna" section in Old Spanish. So far I cannot find the reference to the word "La Spagna".
