Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?
Bartok - String Quartet No. 1, by the Julliard String Quartet...not as exciting as some of the later ones, like no. 4, but, well, it's still bartok

RIGHT NOW: the hum of the air conditioner.
But the last thing musically: RHAPSODY IN BLUE, played with a harmonica soloist (Larry Adler) -- and it actually works! Special arrangement by Robert Russell Bennett.

Ah, Robert Russell Bennett... the composer of the notorious Suite of Old American Dances for Band.

He might have not been the greatest composer around (some of it truly falls into "what the heck?" territory), but no one can deny his abilities as an arranger. Like Jonathan Tunick today, the man saved countless scores from a fate worse than death...allegroamabile wrote:Ah, Robert Russell Bennett... the composer of the notorious Suite of Old American Dances for Band.

Poor you.
I don't normally participate (also because I rarely listen to music while browsing the 'interwebs'): Bartok Piano Concerto No. 2

Whoa, what did andrewilson do wrong? Just curious and I don't want to make that mistake myself.
Oh and to be on topic, I am listening to Stravinsky's March to Danses concertantes conducted by the (in)famous Robert Craft.

Abusing the forums to advertise his website, a.k.a. SPAM. (He made even more nonsensical posts in other threads, now deleted.) It's OK for regular contributors to advertise their personal websites in their signature. It's definitely NOT OK for passers-by to advertise commercial websites anywhere on these forums.allegroamabile wrote:Whoa, what did andrewilson do wrong?

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?
May I cavel a bit on that one?
This is a music site, and that means a pretty wide swath. For most of us, it's Beethoven and Bach; for others, it's Walter Piston -- and for others, it's (sad to say) Britney Spears. It's still music, even though many of us might not like to think so.
As for the website in his sig, that's pretty common around the Net these days, as everyone is doing what they can to make a buck. But that doesnt ipso facto mean he's advertising for profit, nor is it truly spam in the purest sense of the word. It's just how the Net operates these days. If I even knew how to make a sig, I'd have one that directs folks to my two blogs... neither of which are profit-making entities but just part of my online experience.
Just my 0.02. No doubt worth every penny.

As I said before, links to personal sites are OK if you are a regular contributor.
