Mozart: Marriage of Figaro. Just ended. Live performance from the MET. Sirius Satellite Radio internet stream. Excellent singing. Many far-too-slow tempi and weird, Mengelberg-like agogic manipulations. Verdi's Otello with Domingo and Fleming (1988 live performance) coming up at midnight.

A TIVO replay of Monday's Dancing with the Stars. Sorry, it's off-topic, but I do like this show. And the musical arrangements for big band are excellent.

Powerful!

Schubert's sonata in C minor D 958 played by Sviatoslav Richter in Budapest in 1958. I think there're a few of things which can say more, and really anyone can say it better than Richter.

Intermission between Acts 1 and 2 of Aida. Live from the MET. Sirius Metropolitan Opera Radio, streamed over the net. Tomorrow night from the same source is Der Rosenkavalier, one of my top 10 pieces (oops, I can't say such things or the evil webmeister will throttle this thread too, which might be just as well in this case).

I agree, saint saens is very under rated. Currently preparing his 5th piano concerto.
I decided I'd try something new over the weekend...no one get angry...
Schoenberg: string quartets, piano concerto
I find Schoenberg (as well as other atonal/12 tone music) addictingly strange.

Mily Balakirev's Symphony No. 1 in C major: I. Largo - Allegro vivace
Russian State Symphony Orchestra under Igor Glovschin
I am a big fan of obscure music...

I wouldn't agree that that work is obscure...compared to Chaikovsky's symphonies, yes, but not compared to even Khachaturyan's.

I would say the Balakirev is pretty obscure. What do you base that on besides comparing it to Khachaturian?
Oh and I am currently listening to Beethoven's March No. 2 in F major for Military Band

Balakirev as a name isn't obscure at all. He was one of The Five for god sakes.
Now his Symphonies aren't all that known, but obscure is a bit pushing it.

I agree. His symphonies may not get much attention, but they are major works in the output of a pretty major composer.

C.P.E. Bach - Wq. 183 - incredible (not particularly good, but nice, and quite interesting)
