Hey, I'm a trombone player in my high school marching band, and one of the songs we're playing in our show this year is an instrumental version of the opera "Nessun Dorma". Towards the beginning, there's a baritone solo, which our music arranger/director opened up to trombones and baritones, but said up front that he'd rather have a baritone play it. Now, if anyone here has marched, you know that low brass solos are fairly rare. So, I'd obviously like to snag this one if I can. My question is: can I make my trombone(a fairly small bore Yamaha student model, unfortunately. I'm not going to march my Bach 42 XP) sound more euph./baritone-like? Thanks in advance to anyone who replies

right...that's not what I was asking. I know what Nessun Dorma is.

My husband is a trombonist. Essentially he says there is no way to make your trombone sound like a euphonium. Your best bet is just to play it as well as you can, and if the technique/musicianship is good enough, and you've played it better than anyone else, then the sound will be secondary anyway.
