Dvorak- Clarinet Quintet in B-flat minor (lost)

Post by allegroamabile »

Is it really true that Dvorak wrote a chamber work for the clarinet? I stumble upon the title while I was browsing a list of his works on Wikipedia. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

I believe it's one of the works from the 1860s which Dvorak claimed to have destroyed (together with a string quartet, two overtures for orchestra, incidental music and a mass setting).

The list of stuff in B. that shows destroyed is:
B 2 Mass in Bb
B 14 Clarinet Quintet in Bb
B 25 Two Piano Trios No. 1
B 26 Two Piano Trios No. 2
B 33 Violin Sonata in a
B 35 Romeo and Juliet Overture
B 96 Violin Concerto in a (First version)

Not too relevant, but just correcting the above.

That's too bad that he destroyed it. I would have loved to play some chamber music written for my instrument by Dvorak.

I do remember hearing someone's transcription of the harmonium and strings bagatelles (Op. 47) for clarinets and strings once; very interesting...
