Bartók and copyright

Post by bameylan »

I would like to publish an edition of "4 Slovakian songs" Sz. 70, by Bartók, so an arrangement is on IMSLP (https://imslp.org/wiki/4_Slovak_Folksongs%2C_Sz.70_(Bart%C3%B3k%2C_B% C3% A9la)). I am not sure if I have the right to do so, which is why your help will be useful. The editor is Boosey & Hawkes and on the score it is written:

Copyright 1924 by Universal Edition, Vienna.
Copyright assigned 1939 to Hawkes & Son (London), Ltd.

I read the copyright chapter on IMSLP and in the case of these 4 songs we have:
Bartok died in 1945 (so over 70 years ago)
Boosey copyrighted it in 1939
I think I can post it on IMSLP, but I'm not completely sure. Can you help me?
