"Free Recordings"

Post by Rogerg »

On each workpage there is a category of "Performances" where audio recordings are uploaded and these are obviously free to download and not copyrighted. But near the bottom of the workpage is "Free Recordings" where links to other sites like YouTube where audio performances are posted. These other sites would have recordings that might have free listening but would not necessarily be uncopyrighted to use for any purpose. But the term "Free Recordings" might imply to some people that whatever is linked there is uncopyrighted.

This was brought to my attention by a YouTube poster who posts on Youtube but her recordings are not copyright free so she was hesitant to be linked under that "Free Recordings" heading and suggested that just calling it "Recordings" might be more appropriate.

So that is my suggestion: that administrators just change that heading to "Recordings","Other Performances" or some other term that does not use the word "Free".

Agreed. Although this is just default text which can be altered with additional contents in the template, the default is best to not state the word "Free".

Ok, but I did not see any way to change that heading or add a different heading. How would I do that?

I'm sorry, the heading of "Free Recordings" cannot be changed, only the text which appears for the link. If you'd rather provide a link to an external recording another way you can use the {{YT}} template and put the link in the metadata for the work like in the "External Links" field.
