Georg Rauchenecker (1844 - 1906)

Post by Black Clarinet »

Hi everybody,
I'm interested in the chamber music by Georg Rauchenecker. His 1st String Quartet seems to be the only work that is still available. It has even been recorded. But where are his other String Quartets, his String Sextet and particularly his Wind Octet?

His "Nachlass" (estate) is apparently in the Stadtbibliothek Wuppertal, but the catalog shows only a few titles (2. string quartet),
http://www.stadtbibliothek-wuppertal.de ... schalt.htm
You may also find some of his compositions in Switzerland, were he worked for a few years, and some other german libraries
try http://www.ubka.uni-karlsruhe.de/kvk/kvk/kvk_en.html.

The wind octet only exists as a catalog card from the 1920's, but cannot be traced in Wuppertal (may be lost)

We digitized his first string quartet, which you can find here: http://hdl.handle.net/1802/7923. The only other works we have of his are some song collections published in 1941.

Hi all,

the second string quartet is available in my own archive, if you like I could send you a copy...

The other four string quartets couldnt be localized so far. They were only available as a manuscript and seem to be lost...

His Wind Octed has a fascinating story, it disappeared in the 1980s from a library in Wuppertal. The violin concert in a-minor is available, too and so are the concert overture and his f-minor symphonie...

feel free to ask!
best greetings from Germany

If you can, download scans of it - I just mirrored the 1. string quartet from Sibley.
How do you know about the wind octet, someone at the Stadtbibliothek just wrote me that it cannot be found, implying it may have been lost during world war 2

Well, the old cue cards in Wuppertal say that the manuscripts of the wind octet as well as of the string sextet are "missing". I know from the former registrar that he lended the wind octet between 1980 and 90 to a well known Rhinelander musician who died shortly after. His legacy did - according to his daughter - not contain any pieces by Rauchenecker. So, noone knows where the manuscripts are, maybe in any antiquarian bookshop in the Rhineland...
The whole archive of the "Stadtbibliothek" had been destroyed during WWII, thats correct, but anyhow some scores survived and finally got lost 40 years later!

What are the most suitable scan-options? pdf? tiff? jpeg? 600dpi or 200dpi? To whom should I send the scans? IMSLP?
The following concerts, orchestral and chamber music scores are available:

1. Sinfonie f-Moll
Symphonisches Tonwerk im Stil einer Ouvertüre
Violinkonzert Nr. 1 a-Moll
Streichquartett Nr. 1 c-Moll
Streichquartett Nr. 2 D-Dur
6 charakteristische Tonbilder
Orientalische Phantasie

best greetings
Frank

On imslp in the "Contributor portal" you can find instructions on how to submit scans to imslp.
For best results, these should be 600 dpi monochrome (B/W).
If you need help with the submission, send me a pm
