Karel Reiner Sonata for Bass and Piano

Post by Raffie McEachin »

A massively underrated bass sonata. The piece is underplayed and posting it on IMSLP, along with Reiner's other works, would prove beneficial to their popularity. Thank you!

What are his life dates and country? This could help finding a library holding it.

He lived 1910-1979. A US libaray could offer pre-1929 works.

It appears (from a simple search) that the sonata was composed in 1958 and published a year later. This would mean it is under copyright worldwide since (as noted above) Reiner died in 1979 and all of his works are under copyright in all territories which apply a life+50 copyright term or longer. Additionally, since the work seems to have first been published in Prague, it is very unlikely to be public domain in the USA by falling under an exception to the standard length of 95 years after publication.

It is also unlikely that there will be any works by Reiner eligible for upload on IMSLP either, as only pieces published in the first twenty years of his life are guaranteed to be in the US public domain.
