Does anyone have Gliere's duos for two violins, Opus 49? I'd love to play it with a friend. Thanks.

Just a word of advice: It helps to include the title or opus number of the piece you're requesting in the subject line of a score-request thread. Giving just the composer's name in the subject line might unintentionally deter someone from reading it.

Our copy of this work was published in Moscow in 1952, making it off limits.

Is your copy a Muzyka edition? If so, then it should probably be public domain in the US, because it was originally published ca.1900 by Jurgenson, and there's no additional copyright on the Russian government publisher unless there was new material added.

1900? It was written in 1909...

Ours explicitly gives a publisher (Gos. Muzykalʹnoe Izd-stvo) and date of 1952, which puts it out of bounds for us. Too bad, too, because it's really starting to show its wear being checked out as much as it has.

Gosudarstvennoye Muzykal'noye Izdatelstvo was in fact the same publisher as Muzyka/Muzgiz. Because their editions were prepared by government workers, they are considered a 'work for hire', and not subject to copyright beyond that of the composer/etc. or original date of publication. Your edition should be public domain in both Canada and the US.

Indeed this Muzyka copy is public domain in the US. This piece was also reprinted by Masters in 2002 (M 3515).

I'm glad this piece didn't get stuck in copyright red tape. It's really lovely.

Also, not to sound greedy, but is Gliere's Duos for Violin and Cello also PD?

Yes (you mean Op.39, right?). They were also published by Jurgenson early in the 20th century, and later by International (1944, most likely a reprint) and Sovetskiĭ Kompozitor (1961).
