Scherzo Op. 20/3 Orchestrated by Mendelssohn

Post by dgljr5121973 »

Does anyone know if the orchestration by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy of the Scherzo movement from his own String Octet Op. 20, which he used to replace the 3rd movement of his Symphony No. 1 in c Op. 11 in the London premiere on 25 May 1829, is in PD? If so, where could I find a copy?

Thank you,

Looks like it was published by Novello in 1911 and is therefore PD worldwide. The score at least is held at the universities of Boston, Indiana, and Chicago as far as the US is concerned - see here. Parts are listed on WC as well, they were published along with the score.

Thanks. A couple of questions:

1.) What is WC?

and

2.) Is there any online sources or online copies I could find?

Thanks again.

WorldCat, the site I linked to in the sentence preceding the (offhand) abbreviation.
2.) Is there any online sources or online copies I could find?
I'm not having any luck finding a scan of the Novello edition, but you can buy a Kalmus reprint of the score from SMP.
