Viola pieces

Post by drurylane5 »

I'm looking for the Bartok viola concerto, Brahms sonata in f minor, and the Vieuxtemps sonata in B-flat major...

Brahms Op.120 no. 1 (Viola sonata in F minor)

Post by violist85 »

I do have Brahms digitally, however, I'm too dumb and/or too lazy to upload the file. So if you PM me I can e-mail you and maybe you can put it online.

Please read the notice, we still do not allow file sharing, upload it but this isn't a place to share as we can't verify the copyright.

No PMing of files, nor emailing of files.

I'm sure violist85 has too low an opinion of his/her skills...if a complete blonde like me with no clue about computers can learn to upload a score, then anybody can.

If you have the file digitally, then a lot of the hard work has been done already! The rest is just pushing the right buttons.

After all, you can play the viola (and that means not only manual dexterity, but being able to read music in that weird alto clef thing)...that already puts you miles ahead of many of us, as far as IQ goes.

Bah, I can read all 4 clefs. And no, not soprano clef, that just looks weird.

Sorry, but William Primrose, the arranger, died 1982 - so this is still copyright (and will be for a long time).

However, if anyone needs tiffs converted to pdfs and doesn't have the software or time to do so, feel free to send them to me. I have both the software and the time.

The Vieuxtemps is up, isn't it? I think that it's one of the files that still has technical or copyright issues, though.

The Bartok Concerto is from 1945, so it's only PD in Canada. In the meantime, take a look at the Honegger Sonata.

I have reviewed the vieuxtemps sonata.

The Bartok concerto however was left incomplete by the composer, so the probability that the completors (like his son) are in pd is low.

Unfortunately, the Bartók concerto is not PD in Canada because it was prepared from the composer's manuscripts by Tibor Serly (d. 1978). This goes for the orchestral score and piano reduction.

(Never mind to what was once here; I misunderstood the purpose of the forum)

Two quick questions about uploading: What country's/ies' copyright laws must IMSLP abide by? Also, if I can find a PD piece on another website, can I upload it here?

Canada

Yes, provided it is at least public domain in Canada.
