Call it a preemptive strike. If Shostakovich is mentioned more often (especially in regard to nationalism) it is assured Volkov will come up.

If you want to read something that puts a neutral (and amazingly not subjective) view on Shostakovich, read Laurel E. Fay's Shostakovich: A life. Good book. Her essay's also good.

Testimony is the most un-academic book I have ever seen that has been so widely approved of by academics.

I am really eager to find out if Alexander Glazunov had any Mongol roots since he does look somewhat Oriental. I know that the Mongols occupied Eastern Europe for some time so it is definitely plausible. If I could gain any insight on this from somebody I would be extremely grateful.
