Monteverdi Poppea Malpiero edition

Post by sbeckmesser »

I believe that the score recently posted of Monteverdi's Coronation of Poppea in the Malpiero edition is actually a "full" score. It just looks like a vocal score since the surviving material hardly has anything specific for anything but a continuo player. But the opening of the prologue shows independent melodic lines that are not present in the continuo, as does the end of the opera. In a true vocal score these lines would have been incorporated into the keyboard part.

Quite right, it's a full score... someone will edit the page at some point to mention that fact (but not me, at least in the next several hours).
