Brahms, Clarinet Sonatas op.120

Post by steltz »

Both sonatas in this set are on one page, which is fine (they share an opus number), but the title of the page is [[Clarinet Sonata No.1, Op.120/1 (Brahms, Johannes)]].

Unless anyone has an objection, I would like to move this to "Clarinet Sonatas, op.120 (Brahms, Johannes)".

I thinkthere's a choice here between:

Both sonatas on the same page:
  • 2 Clarinet Sonatas, Op.120 (Brahms, Johannes)
Separate pages for each sonata:
  • Clarinet Sonata No.1, Op.120/1 (Brahms, Johannes)
  • Clarinet Sonata No.2, Op.120/2 (Brahms, Johannes)
The latter solution has been used elsewhere (as it can simplify things in collections of multi-movement works), but IMSLP doesn't have an 'official' policy on this.

The problem with the separate pages option is that the Simrock edition (the only one with the clarinet parts), has the piano, clarinet, viola parts for both sonatas all in one file.

It makes sense to have 2 pages, but I can't separate the files. It might make sense to take your first option until such time as someone can do the surgery . . . . . :D

[Edit: the Muzyka file would need to be split too. It looks like the first file uploaded was just Sonata no.1, but subsequent uploads that had more than just the first sonata were put on that page too, without changing the name.]

You could put each sonata on a separate page, and include the same data for the 2-sonata editions on each of those pages until such time as those editions could be split.

Thanks, it seems as if someone has done this in the meantime, though the file splitting at some point should be done, but at least the editions are also accessible from the No.2 page.
