Ravel's Tzigane

I actually found my favorite recording of the piece on youtube. I remember a friend showed me this fantastic recording about two years ago, and I fell in love with it. In fact, the person who showed me the recording (Lndlewis10) actually practiced the piece for years. KGill was kind, and influential enough, to show Lndlewis10 the piece in the first place. This recording is truly life changing:

Does anyone think there is a better recording anywhere else in the world? I suppose an argument could be made for Kogan, though it's less controlled in many ways.

Well, Leonid's son Pavel did a Great rendition of this... But unfortunately it hasnt been released, I was lucky to hear and witness a great recital that was recorded by our school.. And Dmitri his son, who also is a Violinist did a recital as well when they all did an all-Kogan Concert with the Utah Symphony in 2001 of April... His niece Victoria Korchinskaya-Kogan did Rachmaninoff Paganini Rhaspody, and his son did Saint-Saens Violin 3... so but anyways, Joshua Bells recording is simply delightful. Anne Sophie-Mutter does a well job, with Maestro Jimmy Levine (don't ever call him that, a certain percentage of persons can even just call him Jim). I would assume to find ones "Perfect Recording" is to each is own.. But then again, its variables depend on if that person knows what they're dealing with as far as how well its played... Are you Violinist BKhon?

Yes, I am a violinist. Kogan does an excellent (and flamboyant) recording of this as well. Anne Sophie-Mutter's area of talent seems to be more geared towards the classical time period. Her Mozart concertos are quite breathtaking.

Check out Daniel Hope's recording of Tzigane where his accompanist uses a piano with a lutheal attachment, as per Ravel's original intentions. Fascinating cimbalom type sounds. Great, passionate performance. Interesting CD all around, though if you want only the Tzigane it is available as an MP3 download.
