What copyright status would the editors (of clarinet music) Simeon Bellison (d.1957) and Alamiro Giampieri (d.1963) be afforded in the United States and the EU?
The works would be things like the Baermann (1810-1885), Lazarus (1815-1895) and Klosé (1808-1880) methods.
Giampieri also edited things like Cavallini works.
There is another editor for some Baermann editions, Fridtjof Christoffersen, and I can find a birth date of 1870 (not sure whether it's the right Fridtjof Christoffersen, though), but I can't find a death date.

In the EU, much depends upon the nature of the editorial contribution. What original material, if any, was added by Bellison and Giampieri? If they added original material, annotations, practice instructions, etc., the editions are likely protected in the EU (70 pma). Ditto in Canada for Giampieri (except 50 pma). In the USA, everything depends upon the notice, registration and renewal if published before 1978. If published 1978 though 1988, it could be free if the notice was absent or improper. Anything published 1989 or later is 70 pma.
