spiritual madrigals

Post by steltz »

Heinrich Schütz's "Ach Herr, du Schöpfer aller Ding", SWV 450 is listed as a "spiritual madrigal":

Grove Music also designates it as such. Was this a common enough designation to consider a special tag for it, or do people have other suggestions?

Madrigale spirituale isn't recognised as an individual genre by the MLA, and we seem to have lots of other madrigals with religious texts that aren't differentiated. So I'd recommend using "madrigals", and if required we can decide at some future date whether to split the madrigals category into sacred/secular.
