Fauré Piano Quartet No. 2 Op. 45
The work page for this states that Fauré dedicated Op. 45 to Tchaikovsky. This is incorrect. The printed dedication on the first edition is to Hans von Bülow (who gratefully accepted it in a letter dated 30 January 1888) See Nectoux: Gabriel Fauré, a Musical Life, pp. 90-91. The Tchaikovsky confusion is explained as follows: In March 1888, Tchaikovksy conducted concerts in Paris and on that occasion Fauré inscribed a copy to him, 'To my honoured friend P. Tchaikovsky, with all my affection and respect, Gabriel Fauré, 15 March 1888.' (See Nectoux, p. 278), but this is just an inscribed copy of the score rather than the formal dedication.
