Request to temporary unlock Baer, Abel
Another request to unlock Abel Baer. See the two copyright statement below for the two songs I want to upload.
Does this composer really need to be locked? One of these songs is 100 years old.

Re: Request to temporary unlock Baer, Abel
The purpose of the "new work lock", as far as I can tell, seems to be to prevent works by composers who died in 1972 or later from being uploaded without proper research into their copyright statuses. It was likely a historical issue, but the process of requesting the workpage of a PD-USA-only composer to be unlocked, allowing works in the US public domain to be uploaded, remains in place.

Thanks for the explanation. I've now uploaded the works so you can close it up again.
Re: Request to temporary unlock Baer, Abel
Yes this is correct. We can accept any work past 1972 death date composers of anyone up to modern day published 1929 and earlier (or even alive but that is extremely unlikely as the person at the absolute earliest would had to be born around 1911-12 at the absolute earliest to have something published before 1930 and most likely anyone from that period is most likely passed away now). The main server is in Canada but we offer a USA server, its more risky to accept editions that is legal on only one server (most of the time) without a takedown notice from a copyright owner if we get the information incorrect that are this recent and can only be on one server to be accessed legally for USA residents mainly only, so that is the biggest reason we have this forum to request unlocking these pages. Most of the time, editions must have a copyright date on these for us to accept these, but can also have just the printed date as well like Muzgiz editions from Moscow.ScoreUpdater wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 4:55 pm The purpose of the "new work lock", as far as I can tell, seems to be to prevent works by composers who died in 1972 or later from being uploaded without proper research into their copyright statuses. Another reason is most of the world is either on the Life + 50 or 70 post term standard after death, which is another reason why the USA is unique in accepting any works published before 1930, be it dead or alive.

Thanks for the ample response Sallen.
