Debussy list of works page is really messed up

Post by nocturnal___s »

Please visit the List of works by Claude Debussy page:
https://imslp.org/wiki/List_of_works_by_Claude_Debussy

You will see that after CD 16, Fleur des blés, it looks like someone completely ruined the rest of the table at some point.
Below that point in the page:
First Publication column is deleted
Key column is deleted
Notes column is deleted
L numbers are written in the CD column
CD numbers are written in the L column
Dates are written in the Work Title column
Genres are written in the Forces column
Work titles are written in the Key column
Forces are written in the Date column

I hope someone can fix this please.

I still wonder where the source for calling the second version of the catalog "CD" is. Before a certain vandal changed it on Wikipedia (long since gone thankfully), I'd always seen L also used, including in the complete works boxset on Warner, which one would think would be a much better authority than a rando Internet editor. I've seen CD a few times on recordings since but never before it showed up on Wikipedia.

It looks like it was changed here in 2018 by someone with very few edits.

It is sad that it has not been fixed since 2018 when this is the best website for these lists and Debussy is such a big composer. It's a shame.

I had started a proper clean-up of Debussy's "list of works" page but unfortunately did not find the time to continue past CD 16. If you would like a consistently-formatted table (although not in the same format as is recommended in the manual of style), this is available here, in the revision as of 6 June 2024.

I had added the source for the CD and L catalogues, which are available in archived form online:
  • CD — numbering as given by François Lesure (Claude Debussy: biographie critique, 2003)
  • L — numbering as given by François Lesure (Catalogue de l'œuvre de Claude Debussy, 1977)

I just converted the remaining rows of the old wiki table to integrate with the new table. I've not yet cross-referenced with the external catalogue sources, but hopefully this looks good enough as a new baseline to iteratively improve upon again.

The only information I intentionally omitted during the conversion are the incipits for vocal works. Some list of works pages include them, and they may be useful to re-add in the future, perhaps after tweaking the table column widths to better accommodate the extra data (unless we wanted to use a separate column, or the Notes column).
